Stratosphere, definition of
- Stratosphere
A global, three-dimensional computer model of the climate system; GCM's are highly
complex and they represent the effects of such factors as reflective and
absorptive properties of atmospheric water vapor, greenhouse gas
concentrations, clouds, annual and daily solar heating, ocean
temperatures and ice boundaries. The most recent GCM's include global
representations of the atmosphere, oceans, and land surface.
They are often used to model the effects of human induced climate change into the future; but the accuracy of the models are highly dependent upon:
- The accuracy of the initial starting conditions;
- The accuracy of how the climatic processes are modeled, and;
- The accuracy of the assumptions made in the model construction.
Like all modeling systems that attempt to predict the future the further they attempt to 'look' into the future the more inaccurate they become with respect to reality.

Before you ask, it's not because of all the climate satellites NASA plans to launch in the next few years. - Carbon emissions are chilling the atmosphere 90km above Antarctica, at the edge of space
While greenhouse gases are warming Earth’s surface, they’re also causing rapid cooling far above us, at the edge of space. In fact, the upper atmosphere about 90km above Antarctica is cooling at a rate ten times faster than the average warming at... - Australia Bushfire Smoke Now Warming the Lower Stratosphere?

From Dr. Roy Spencer’s Blog October 4th, 2019 by Roy W. Spencer, Ph. D. While the vast majority of our monthly global temperature updates are pretty routine, September 2019 is proving to be a unique exception. The bottom line is that there is nothing... - Rare: Sudden Stratospheric Warming in the Southern Hemisphere — cold weather coming?
Right now a very rare southern SSW (Sudden Stratospheric Warming) is taking place, possibly peaking today or this weekend over Antarctica. In the Northern Hemisphere SSW’s happen more often and in the month afterwards, wild polar blasts like the... - Evidence of the 11 year Solar Cycle in the Stratosphere
This is not a novel result, for example: https://wattsupwiththat.com/2018/03/30/tools-to-spot-the-spots/ Nevertheless, this is a solid analysis and exercise in citizen science.~ctm By: Leron Wells During my early teenage years as an avid fan of the Space... - Chemtrails or Contrails? Another Alarmist Issue Without Scientific Context
NOTE: like with the essay Saturday about isotasy/glacial rebound being a myth, I don’t think the chemtrails idea has any merit whatsoever. Dr. Tim Ball points out more bad science – chemtrails, which are really just contrails, and which has... - Evidence that stratospheric circulation changes drive ocean changes, and thus climate changes
